Ivey Virgil
(Liberty University)
Experiential Support Coordinator

Ivey was born and raised in middle Georgia and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Georgia College & State University in 1999.  She then completed her final internship at the Cancer Life Center in Macon, Georgia. Over the next few years, she met and married her husband, Scott, a 1998 West Point graduate and Armor officer.

Over two decades later, her resume includes 6 years of nursing, 15 years of teaching physical fitness classes, volunteering as an Army spouse, and partnering with her husband to raise three amazing children.  During multiple moves and five deployments, her leadership skillset developed while supporting the military family sector serving as leader, advisor, and mentor in multiple Family Readiness Groups (FRG). These experiences broadened her appreciation of principles in leadership, such as collaboration, communication, cultural diversity, and integrity.

The culmination of her time spent with military families came when she was hired to facilitate small groups of Army spouses attending the Pre-Command Course at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. The courses allowed for group members to delve deeper into their own leadership personalities, learn resiliency skills and the basics of conflict management, and gain advice from others who have experienced life as a command spouse. During that same year, she served as President of the Friends of the Frontier Army Museum Board, which is comprised 10 volunteers who raised funds to acquire and maintain artifacts within the historical museum. Her time spent at Fort Leavenworth sparked a fire to attend graduate school and pursue a master’s degree in Human Services Counseling, specializing in Executive Leadership from Liberty University.

She and her family moved to West Point in 2019, and she was hired by Thayer Leadership late that year as an Observer Controller for onsite experientials. During the pandemic, she pivoted to serving as an Online Guide and utilized the Observer Controller role during the virtual experiential. In her current role, she will be working closely with the Experiential Team on design/development and regional courses.

She currently resides in Tampa, Florida with her family. When not working, she enjoys exercising, meeting friends for lunch, going to kids’ sporting events, going to the beach with family, and taking her two goldendoodles to the dog park.
