Experience:

Mike is the Risk Manager for Thayer Leadership whereby he assesses risk to the organization and its clients and develops mitigation strategies to reduce it. His role captures regulatory and compliance standards in data security, physical safety, and cyber risk. He has been a firefighter for 15 years with the West Point Fire & Emergency Services Division at the United States Military Academy. He is a Company Officer, Hazardous Materials Incident Commander, and Technical Rescue Officer with a County-wide Special Operations Rescue Team. He specializes in multiple disciplines and leads teams in environments that place rescue personnel in harm’s way. Mike is a national instructor for the Federal Emergency Management Agency - National Emergency Training Center where he instructs executive-level leaders on contemporary emergency management, specifically in cyber security. Mike holds numerous certifications in hazardous materials response to weapons of mass destruction and technical/special rescue skills. 

Scholarly Work/Publications/Awards:

Mike is a graduate of the esteemed Federal Emergency Management Agency - Executive Academy and contributes to leadership and cyber security publications, specifically in an emergency or regulatory setting. In 2011, Mike was awarded Firefighter of the Year for his role in a complex emergency management operation that aided in the rescue and/or assistance of over 100 people, additionally, he also revamped and led the department's physical fitness and wellness program. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal in 2010 and 2011 and Unit Citations for successful rescues. In 2011, his rescue team was awarded the Department of Army, IMCOM, Rescue Team of the Year for rescuing two injured hikers from 60-foot vertical ice slide 800 feet from the ground at night in below-freezing temperatures.
